This is an excellent resource for those who are trying to learn about the Atlantic World. This is a collection of well-edited seminal articles about the Atlantic historical exchanges. The book is inexpensive and readily available--a better alternative than looking for the articles yourself. Probably the best feature is the editing work itself. Most of the articles here have been recognized, highly scholarly pieces, which originally appealed to specialists. However, in the book they have been edited to reach out to the general audience to which is meant, without losing their scholarly significance.

While we were discussing self-help books that had been important to us, she mentioned The Invisible Partners. Later I ordered the book from Amazon and it proved to be revolutionary. Finally, I have answers. I understand why/how I'd experienced certain disorienting emotional phenomena since I was a young man. And now I have ways to "right myself". The answers and tools didn't come directly from the text, but indirectly from doing the work suggested in the appendix. (I think the appendix is worth the price of the book.)
If you're open to Jungian thought and have found therapy helpful but maybe unable to answer some key questions, do yourself a favor and read The Invisible Partners. You may not find it revolutionary, but I can't imagine you won't find it helpful.

good book, but too analytical

This book is good for introducing the concepts of anima and animus. But it lacks some good examples from real life. Instead it gets hung up on analytical details to the extent of being "anal." I recommend this book but it does not make it into my favorite collection.

Jungian Anima and Animus

This book primarily addresses the Jungian concept of the contra-sexual in which men have a feminine archetype (called the anima) in their psyches, and women have a corresponding masculine archetype (called the animus) in their psyches. These unconscious forces have profound effects upon our lives, especially upon our relationships with persons of the opposite sex. This short book, while written some time ago, is still applicable today. It covers a lot of ground in a short space so it can be a bit difficult or even dense in places, especially if the reader is not intimate with Jungian psychology. Nevertheless, the concepts (or model, if you will) are valuable and useful in everyday life-not just with romantic relationships, but also with interpersonal communications and understanding.

In order to get the most out of this book, it is necessary to keep an open mind. This can be challenging; as stated on page 9: "Even the most elemental knowledge of oneself is something that most people resist with the greatest determination. Usually it is only when we are in a state of great pain or confusion, and only self-knowledge offers a way out, that we are willing to risk our cherished ideas of what we are like in a confrontation with the truth, and even then many people prefer to live a meaningless life rather than to go through the often disagreeable process of coming to know themselves."

Thus, recognition of animus/anima interplay can result in "being in love" which we resist analyzing and bringing into the everyday world. From pages 18-19: "Relationship founded exclusively on the being-in-love state can never last...being in love is a matter for the gods, not for human beings...it can endure only in a fantasy world where the relationship is not tested in the everyday stress of real life...To the extent that a relationship is founded on projection, the element of human love is lacking. To be in love with someone we do not know as a person, but are attracted to because they reflect back to us the image of the god or goddess in our soul, is in a sense, to be in love with oneself not with the other person...Real love begins only when one person comes to know another for who he or she really is as a human being, and begins to like and care for that human being."

Projection is not, however, a totally negative process because per page 20: "Each time projection occurs there is another opportunity for us to know our inner Invisible Partners, and that is a way of knowing our own souls." Thus, for example, on pages 53-4: "In learning to relate to a woman, a man also has to come to terms with the little boy in himself...We have no free choice unless we are psychologically conscious persons," and on page 55: "Of the choices every man and woman makes of his or her partner in life; in some way the partner represents something we need to understand about ourselves."

But it's not a bowl of roses either because per page. 83: "Projections can never be withdrawn completely, for they are out of our conscious control; nor can we ever become so conscious of the inner images of the anima and animus that projections do not occur. Withdrawing projections does not mean that they no longer occur, but that we understand them as images within ourselves when they do." But, (page 124) "We get well in direct proportion to the energy we put into our psychological development."

About the Author
Ronnee K. Yashon--a nationally known expert in teaching genetics, ethics, and the law on all levels--teaches Law and Genetics at the Experimental College of Tufts University and Boston University School of Medicine. She has a law degree and a background in teaching on the high school, undergraduate, graduate, and law school levels. A recipient of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science Teaching and the Outstanding Biology Teacher Award in Illinois, Yashon was the Educational Coordinator for the Wright Center for Science Education at Tufts University, during which time she ran numerous workshops for science teachers and disseminated interdisciplinary lessons at local and national conventions, including NSTA and NABT. A genetics seminar at Ball State University in 1985 sparked her interest in law. She then applied and graduated from law school with a specialty in science and law. A popular speaker at in-service meetings for secondary teachers and for two- and four-year college associations, Yashon has helped bring new ways of presenting old topics. Her case study methodology for introducing bioethics and law in the curriculum uses simple, personalized, and current scenarios that involve the student in decision making. Yashon has presented this case study method all over the country. She has six case study books, including two minibooks that focus on genetics and environmental issues. The implementation of science-oriented law courses in current law school curriculum is a continuing interest in addition to educating jurists and attorneys on the subject of genetics.

Michael Cummings is the author and coauthor of a number of widely used college textbooks, including BIOLOGY: SCIENCE AND LIFE; CONCEPTS OF GENETICS; GENETICS: A MOLECULAR PERSPECTIVE; ESSENTIALS OF GENETICS; HUMAN HEREDITY; and HUMAN GENETICS AND SOCIETY. He has also written articles on aspects of genetics for the McGraw-Hill Encyclopedia of Science and Technology and has published a newsletter on advances in human genetics for instructors and students. He received his Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from Northwestern University. His doctoral work, conducted in the laboratory of Dr. R.C. King, centered on ovarian development in Drosophila melanogaster. After a year on the faculty at Northwestern, he moved to the University of Illinois at Chicago, where for many years he held teaching and research positions. In 2003, he joined the faculty in the Department of Biology at the Illinois Institute of Technology, and currently holds the title of Research Professor. His current research interests involve the organization of DNA sequences in the short-arm and centromere region of human chromosome 21. He is engaged in a collaborative effort to construct a physical map of this region of chromosome 21 for the purpose of exploring molecular mechanisms of chromosome interactions. At the undergraduate level, he has focused on teaching genetics, human genetics for non-majors, and general biology to majors and non-majors. He has received awards given by the university faculty for outstanding teaching, has twice been voted by graduating seniors as the best teacher in their years on campus, and has received several teaching awards from student organizations.

Funny, Informative & finally an honest approach

I had the pleasure of reading this book. I laughed through the whole thing, but also learned things about golf I had never considered I finally realize why I do the things I do when attempting to play and also some pointers to improve. Popovich, a first time author, is delightful in his approach. He obviously is a good golfer, but doesn't take himself seriously and is encouraging all those who attempt to play this game to do the same. Everyone who plays golf, who is contemplating playing golf or just enjoys watching golf on TV should absolutely read this book. I guarantee you will be entertained and you might just learn something from "under the Hat".

The title of this book captures the content...with humor. The wisdom behind the mechanics of the game become evident through this presentation. Shared experiences from the author mixed with the notable commentaries on and about the "Pros" really make this a smooth and enjoyable read. Reasonably priced and I highly recommend it.

Reed's first effort as an author is amazing!! The tall skinny kid shows great promise in his first ever effort. Golf Wisdom has something for everyone! Even non-golfers will find something to be amused about. Can't wait for his next one!!!!!!!

Another Version of Fifty Shades of Grey - Sexually Inexperienced Woman Has Relationship with Dominant Billionaire

Emily is a young woman who leaves her small town to make a better life for herself. While she is desperately looking for a job, she runs into Cooper. He is a 32-year-old billionaire who wants Emily in his life as soon as he lays eyes on her. Shortly after they meet, Cooper asks her to be his girlfriend and engage in BDSM as a submissive. Emily quickly falls in love with Cooper as she becomes utterly consumed by him and every aspect of his life.

If you want to read a story that has a similar premise to Fifty Shades of Grey, then I would recommend this book. Emily and Cooper feel like they are soulmates and destined to be together even though they've only known each other for a day. This relationship should be filled with internal conflict considering the personalities of these characters, the short amount of time they've spent together, and the complicated sexual dynamic that exists between them. But none of that inner turmoil exists. The only obstacle they must overcome is a villain who is represented as Cooper's ex-wife. She is blackmailing Cooper over an issue that could potentially jeopardize his business.

I wish I could have found out why these characters cared so much about each other. Their feelings weren't based on anything substantive. They were quickly declaring an undying love for each other, but it came across as trivial and shallow. This story had the potential to be a lot more suspenseful and riveting if there was more character development and drama.

Where do I start

Let me first start by saying I only made it to the 20% mark. That being said I spent more time correcting grammatical errors in my head then getting into the story there was no character building in the beginning so while the main characters are " in a relationship" idk who they are or why they crossed path. But maybe she got to that later. Sex was dry and forced and the main female wasn't doing it for me, way to damsel in distress. I feel like I wasted a kindle unlimited pick. ( I'm sure someone liked it just not me. Sorry not sorry )
